Obviously not much.
It’s quite possible that North Miami Beach Commissioner Jay Chernoff indulged a little too much in the guilty pleasures of the 1970s. Our entire generation did, but the vast majority of us escaped the era with most of our brain cells intact. Jay, on the other hand does not seem fully recovered even though it was more than 50 years ago.
Here’s the thing, Jay.
When we carried your lazy ass across that finish line on November 22, 2022 in the Runoff Election, it was for the sole purpose of ousting the utterly revolting Paule Villard from the seat she had vilified on the dais for the previous four years.
That was our job and, much to our collective surprise, we succeeded.
During the previous four years, beginning with the November 2020 municipal election, life in North Miami Beach was absolute hell for the residents. Daniela Jean’s win gave Michael Joseph, McKenzie Fleurimond, and Paule Villard the majority vote they needed to systematically dismantle the city government, one department at a time. Paule was the only one of the three up for re-election that year, so we were all thankful to you, Jay, for stepping up to the plate and running against that wench.
As soon as you were sworn in as Commissioner, your only job was to undo all the damage wreaked by the Criminal Four and rid NMB of their Circle of Corruption — NOT JOIN THEM!
Dude, you were fully apprised of the mission way in advance, and instead of following through, you went AWOL.
One of the many goals expected of Jay was his cooperation in firing the brutally corrupt EX-City Manager Arthur “Duke” Sorey WITH CAUSE.
Without a doubt, Duke Sorey was the root cause of all the problems that had been going on at City Hall from the minute he was appointed by the four corruptocrats in April of 2021. We immediately knew it would only lead to massive amounts of trouble — and debt.
Unfortunately for North Miami Beach residents, we were 100% correct!
In fact, we then proceeded to write about 160 blogs about the city’s downfall from April 20, 2021 through Duke’s firing on March 21, 2023 and beyond, enumerating the millions and millions of tax dollars he squandered on fraud and abuse.
In fact, it took more than another two years to fully assess the damage Duke left behind, and we documented all of it until June 23, 2025 when we wrote our last blog about his utter destruction of the once-stellar North Miami Beach Police Department.
It’s fall from grace was as ugly as it was predictable.
Without a doubt, there was a preponderance of clear, unequivocal evidence that Duke Sorey had to be fired WITH CAUSE!
And yet, Jay Chernoff was the tie-breaking vote on a commission of seven elected officials, and he sided with the three remaining Criminal Commissioners still on the dais to fire Duke WITHOUT CAUSE!
Jay’s “explanation” was that he was trying to avoid the lawsuit that Duke would most likely file, despite the fact that Duke would not have a defense against all of the improper, and even criminal actions he took while he was regrettably running North Miami Beach.
Into the ground.
It took a full month of convincing Jay that he screwed up royally, but that he could redeem himself at the April 18, 2023 Commission Meeting if he changed his vote. Since he was on the prevailing side of the vote, all he had to do was move to bring back the resolution to fire Duke and then vote to rightfully fire him WITH CAUSE.
Fortunately, it was that simple.
Unfortunately, however, because Jay had voted incorrectly the first time, Duke was able to use Jay’s stupidity to his own advantage when he filed his inevitable lawsuit against the city.
The case eventually went to mediation, which led to a vote at the June 17, 2025 Commission Meeting whether or not to negotiate with a terrorist.
Even though Jay and Commissioner Fortuna Smukler voted against settling with Duke, the motion passed 5-2, and Duke walked away stealing another $200,000.00-plus from the already depleted coffers of the city’s tax dollars.
Thanks to Jay Chernoff.
But, wait! THERE’S MORE!
Once again, Jay Chernoff seems to have forgotten his mission to serve the residents who put him in that seat up there on the dais.
As we reported yesterday, the City Commission, or at least 4 of the 7, had the opportunity to pass a Resolution censuring the Devil on the Dais, a/k/a mayor Michael Joseph, for a plethora of his abominable behaviors.
At the eleventh hour, Michael brought in his go-to shyster, Sham Lawyer Luis E. Suarez, to coerce the elected officials into giving his client another undeserved pass.
Following his strongly worded letter “to formally oppose the formal censure on your upcoming agenda scheduled for March 26, 2026,” His Royal Shamster showed up at the meeting to threaten the Commission with a lawsuit if they dared to defy his “respectful advice.”
While Sham Lawyer Luis E. Suarez claimed he was representing Michael Joseph “pro bono” for now, he insinuated that the city would be on the hook for a lot of money if he had to take them all to court.
Considering that Sham Lawyer Luis E. Suarez had already raped North Miami Beach taxpayers for an unauthorized sum of $200,012.76 in legal fees on an unauthorized investigation of former Mayor Anthony DeFillipo, this little “pro bono” stunt is chump change.
In any event, we are pretty sure that Jay Chernoff let Sham Lawyer Luis E. Suarez’s threats get into his empty little head, which is why — once again — Jay forgot whose side he’s supposed to be on, i.e., the people who helped him get elected versus the people he ran against.
As a result, when Michael Joseph’s censure Resolution came up for a vote, Jay aligned with Michael, McKenzie, and Daniela, instead of voting in the affirmative with Commissioners Fortuna Smukler, Phyllis Smith, and Lyn Su.
Maybe he’ll remember his treachery come November when he expects to be re-elected.
If he thinks his new BFFs, a/k/a the Criminal Commissioners, are going to help him with his campaign, he’s going to be mightily disappointed.
Just saying.
If you are inclined to watch the nearly 1-1/2 hour Censure Circus, here it is already cued up.
Once again, the corrupt Michael Joseph escapes being held accountable for his violations of the City Charter and crimes against humanity.
We can only hope that one of these days, very soon, he will get the punishment he so desperately deserves.

When this city finally has a majority of non-corrupt politicians, we still can’t seem to get anything accomplished. Jay Chernoff, unfortunately, does not deserve to be in office. He is nothing more than a seat warmer, and he cannot even do that right.
That preliminary report was very damning for the Mayor. Did Chernoff even read it? From what Su explained, a censure is simply a public disapproval. How could there be a lawsuit just because commissioners think certain behavior is abhorrent?
Do teachers get in trouble when they correct students for misbehaving in front of others? All that was being considered was a show of disapproval for the way employees are being treated, the possibility of bringing in personal contractors, and the alleged attempt to direct an employee to manipulate a video of an interview.
At this point, it sounds like the mayor deserves more than a censure. We can only hope.
And if Chernoff is reading this, you are a mind-boggling disappointment.
The calls and emails I have received even before I posted this blog were from angry, now former supporters of Jay Chernoff. They are in complete shock that he voted against a much needed, if toothless, censure of the city’s evil, bipolar mayor. Heck, I’m still in shock that anyone was stupid enough to vote for Michael in the first place knowing full well how corrupt that SOB is.
Anyway, Jay may have forgotten his mission, but we here at VotersOpinion have not. We are going to do everything in our power to make sure Michael Joseph suffers the consequences of his actions.
Oh, and hey Michael …

Please remind me, wasn’t Krystal Patterson part of the mess there? Didn’t she get hired as a friend and proceed to dismantle code enforcement? And wasn’t she eventually fired? Just want to have my facts straight on how alike your circus is to ours in Tamarac.
Krystal worked in North Miami, which is right next door to North Miami Beach. It’s confusing, I know. But both cities are equally corrupt and share shady political operatives with Tamarac. They all run in the same Circle of Corruption.
That little lawyer was yelling, and treating the commissioners. I think that little Jay got
Too scared. He believes everything the Suarez shark was babbling. Why couldn’t Jay defend ex commissioner Barbara Kramer that was falsely accused by Michael Joseph.and Linda Joseph? They should be sue for false accusations. We need Sharp, and stronger mind representing Us at the NMB dais. And Mr. Chernoff have none.
So true. Michael and his co-conspirators have no problem making false accusations against their political enemies with impunity and they never face any repercussions. A few years ago Paule Villard accused me of stalking and following her despite the fact that I had never met her and had not even been back to NMB even for a visit since before she even came out of the woodwork to run in 2015. She’s as paranoid as Michael is, so they accuse everyone else of going after them when, in fact, they are the aggressors and liars. These are the worst type of people to elect for office. The perceived “power” of being a commissioner make them believe they are invincible and above the law. They need to be held accountable at all times. And their intended victims must stand up to them.
I want to add my name to the plethora of residents who will never, ever, ever, ever, ever vote for Jay Chernoff for anything. When he got up out of his chair at the Commission meeting and kissed MJ on the ear and then patted him on the back, I knew the fix was in and how he would vote. Sure as hell, when the vote was cast to censure MJ, Jay waffled and voted not to censure him, even though there was a laundry list of documented bad deeds done by the Mayor. He turned his back on all the people who campaigned for weeks, going door to door to get him elected. He turned his back on all the city employees who had to suffer abuse under MJ’s terror management style. Never again, Jay. Enjoy the last 7 months of your term, as it will be the last time you ever sit on the dais again in NMB as an elected official. After your term ends, maybe you can get DJ to appoint you to the Committee on the Status of Women.
Alrighty then!
