Dear fellow residents,
The flyers are telling us Paule Villard supported hiring the first Black American female police chief for NMBPD. It stated she hired a Black city manager and Black city attorney.
What it did not tell us is she made a motion to fire a Black City manager and fired a Black American City Clerk less than 6 months after she came into office.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said not to judge a person by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. I will leave it at that.
Councilman Jay Chernoff hired Kelvin Baker as NMB city manager in 2008. He was sworn in and no mention was made he was Black American. It was not a requirement. It was Kelvin’s capability of doing the job that mattered. Kelvin just completed heading the expansion of NMB Water plant, increasing its physical size to double and it’s water capacity to almost double. A more than $100 million dollar project that started in early 2000’s. It became the third largest water plant in Florida and the second largest in Miami-Dade County. Under Kelvin’s leadership for the water plant, it won many awards. He was also in charge of the sanitation department, and it was first class compared to the rubbish we now get for a sanitation service, no pun intended.
NMB is a diverse community. We live in harmony irrespective of our backgrounds. A person was hired for their competency, he or she demonstrating they were capable of doing the job at hand.
On February 17th, 2011, Pamela Latimore was hired unanimously. Again, she was hired because she could do the job. In November 2018 Paule came on board, and by May 2019, Paule made a motion to fire Pamela.
To set the record straight, Paule Villard censured Pamela Latimore, NMB first Black American City Clerk, (who was hired for more than 8 years), on March 19th, 2019. She read from dozens of pages it seems, censuring Pamela. Civility and decorum took a backseat.
Not satisfied, on May 16th, 2019, she made a motion to fire Pamela. This was less than 6 months after Paule came into office, Pamela was fired.
On January 28th, 2021, Paule Villard made a motion to fire Esmond Scott, NMB City Manager, who was the 2nd Black American City manager. Diversity was occurring in City NMB LONG BEFORE Paule came along.
Call your neighbors and remind them to vote, knock on doors, put up signs, and get out to vote on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022.
Thanks,
Mubarak Kazan
