Far too many times in politics, voters are asked to choose the lesser of two evils, and we end up voting against a candidate more often than we vote for someone.
For example, the last time I specifically voted for and not against a candidate for US President was in 1980 when Ronald Reagan was running for office.
Since then, unfortunately, I have resorted to voting for the person that I believed would do the least amount of damage in four to eight years.
The good news is that in local elections, which truly are the most important of all, it’s much easier to support candidates you believe in, mainly because they are usually the friends and neighbors you have known for years — decades even.
I know this because I lived in North Miami Beach for 25 years, and I can tell you that we were truly a united community. When one of our extended “family” members made a decision to run for office, an entire community stood ready to rally behind his or her candidacy. We NMBers practically invented the term “grassroots movement.”
Despite the false, and absolutely ridiculous accusations of “racism” and “right-wing extremism” that Paule Villard and her co-conspirators have been hurling at a group of concerned citizens, a/k/a #WakeUpNMB, who have banded together to rout out the massive corruption at City Hall, these folks are individuals who have actually lived in the City and participated in its government for most of their adult lives.
Not that it matters since this is a non-partisan election, but you should know that almost all of these individuals happen to be lifelong Democrats, including and especially Jay Chernoff.
It’ is quite hilarious that Paule’s surrogate and fellow Criminal Commissioner, (and closet Trump 2016 voter) Michael Joseph, is sending out texts purporting to be from Jay, claiming that he’s a “MAGA” Republican and looking forward to a “red wave.” Although nothing could be further from the truth, Jay shouldn’t have to defend himself against such absurd accusations.
For at least the past year, we have constantly told you all the many reasons to NOT to vote for North Miami Beach Criminal Commissioner Paule Villard. We won’t repeat them again here, but suffice it to say that she is literally unfit to serve in any capacity whatsoever, much less in a representative position.
And as we’ve proven time and time again, she’s also too stupid to be allowed out in public unsupervised.
But this blog isn’t about Criminal Commissioner Paule Villard, even though she provides us with more than enough material on a daily basis, and blogs about her practically write themselves.
The purpose of this column is to tell you why you should vote FOR Jay Chernoff and not just against the most corrupt politician in the City’s history to ever occupy a seat on the dais at City Hall.
Jay is a lifelong resident of North Miami Beach and served as an NMB Councilman from 1989 to 2007. His only goal is to be of service to all the residents of the City, not just a select few.
Unlike Paule Villard, Jay never abused his position or City resources for personal benefit.
Unlike Paule Villard, Jay never traveled all over the country and overseas on taxpayer-funded vacations.
Unlike Paule Villard, Jay never used a North Miami Beach Police Officer as his personal chauffeur.
Unlike Paule Villard, Jay never threw endless parties for Friends & Family on taxpayer dime.
Unlike Paule Villard, Jay never used taxpayer money to campaign for re-election.
Unlike Paule Villard, Jay never had the City Manager create jobs for his campaign manager or workers.
Unlike Paule Villard, Jay Chernoff is a shining example of leadership, honesty, and integrity!
And unlike Paule, when Jay was in office, he accomplished a multitude of things all for the benefit of the residents of the City.
Under Jay’s leadership as your elected official:
- The Senator Gwen Margolis Amphitheater was built.
- The Julius Littman Performing Arts Theater was built.
- The Ronald A. Silver Youth Enrichment Services (YES) Center was built.
- The North Miami Beach Police Department got a brand new building.
- Victory Pool was completely renovated.
- Washington Park was upgraded.
- The North Miami Beach Public Library was upgraded.
- The City’s award-winning Norwood Water Treatment Plant was upgraded.
- North Miami Beach received the prestigious Tree City USA Certification from the Florida Urban Forestry Council.
- Hundreds of trees were planted and landscape improvements were made throughout the City.
- Sidewalks were installed and alleyways were upgraded throughout the City.
Jay also revived the City’s Youth Advisory Board, on which two of my children served until they graduated high school.
As you can see, Jay Chernoff knows the true meaning of public service and he is ready to get to work for YOU!
PLEASE GET TO THE POLLS ON NOVEMBER 22, 2022
AND CAST YOUR VOTE FOR JAY CHERNOFF!
Stephanie
Almost sounds like the credentials of someone who should be running the county – oops! That would make it partisan. But you’re right, Stephanie, the reason local elections are so important is exactly because they are non-partisan. As the old saying goes: you don’t need a political party to pick up the garbage.
What a unique opportunity for NMB voters to vote for someone. Good luck, Mr. Chernoff, and all the people of NMB. You deserve the break he’ll give you.
Elections in North Miami Beach never used to be so uncivil or so partisan. This crap started the year Michael Joseph ran in 2018 when his campaign signs noted that he was endorsed by the Miami-Dade Democrats. It was the first time any local election included a reference to either political party, but as with everything Michael Joseph does, it was designed to cause a partisan rift in a city where there had never been one, and to pit neighbor against neighbor.
Things went downhill fast after Michael, McKenzie, and Paule were elected that year, when they added their inherent racism to the mix. In 2020, when they managed to get Daniela elected and achieve a four-vote majority, all hell broke loose.
The City of North Miami Beach, which for 90 years had always been a wonderfully diverse community where people didn’t care what party you affiliated with or what color your skin was, suddenly found itself caught in the middle of a deliberately incited race and partisan war with Michael and Paule especially instigating all of it.
To what purpose, you might ask? That’s simple. For one thing, they are racists. Period. But more importantly, if the residents of NMB are fighting with each other over race and party politics, they’re not paying attention to the corruption at City Hall. It would actually be a brilliant strategy if it weren’t so evil.
