Under pressure from the North Miami Mayor and Council, as well as the residents he despises, Interim City Manager Arthur “Duke” Sorey took a bold step by suspending his good buddy and fellow strip club attendee, Parks & Rec Director Derrick Corker.
With pay, of course.
Courtesy of North Miami taxpayers.
Corker came under fire last week when it was revealed that he personally profited by selling his own company’s products to the city’s football program, North Miami Youth Football/Cheerleading, Inc.
City officials, including former City Manager Larry Spring and his replacement, temporary seat warmer Duke Sorey, are also taking heat for deliberately not taking action for five months against Corker even after a police investigation determined that he violated administrative policy.
Police Chief Larry Juriga is also being scrutinized for not referring this matter to the State Attorney’s Office even though there is more than enough evidence that Corker violated state law, and possibly even committed a felony.
Then again, this is North Miami, where select members of the Friends & Family Plan always get a free pass regardless of their actions.
The Miami Herald reported yesterday, Parks chief sold jerseys from his company to city football team. Now he’s on leave. According to the article, Corker was placed on paid administrative “pending the outcome of an investigation by the Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust.”
Councilman Scott Galvin told the Herald that he wants the Ethics Commission to move quickly.
We suspect he’ll get his wish.
The good news is that Ethics Commission Executive Director Jose Arrojo is also a former Assistant State Attorney, and is well versed in criminal law. We believe he’ll have no problem sending this case to State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle if he feels it warrants her attention.
In the meantime, however, Derrick Corker is enjoying an extended paid vacation thanks to his BFF Duke Sorey.
Or, as The Duke would say …
Live in North Miami since 1999, is a swamp filled with corruption, nepotism, etc. All across the departments need an intensive course of what the correct definition of public service is.
Public service at the local level has become a taxpayer funded entitlement program. Academic research has confirmed those in positions of power not only tend to abuse that power, they believe they’re entitled to abuse it. I contend corrupt conduct at the local level isn’t necessarily in the system – conduct that is considered corrupt is the system. In a tyrannical government those in power become corrupt and use their power to further their selfish agendas … that appears to be the circumstance throughout North Miami’s political establishment.
Why the Laws don’t work on This High Chairs Reps? There’s Tons of Corruption. With Evidence, Lots of Misused Taxes & High Salaries to those “Directors” and He still Get Paid for doing wrong? Common This is AMERICA, Take Actions & Make Changes.
