You know the story of Simone Biles and the Final Five who are dominating the 2016 Rio Olympics.

But do you know the story of Jesse Owens’ African American teammates and what they endured in 1936?

Eighty years ago, in Hitler’s Berlin, the 1936 Olympics were playing against a very different backdrop.  That year, Jesse Owens won four gold medals, defeating Hitler’s idea of Aryan supremacy.

But did you know there were seventeen other African-American athletes who competed in Berlin?

On Thursday, August 18th, I invite you to the Joe Celestin Center to learn their story.

Filmmaker Deborah Riley Draper will be with us to share her special insight into this amazing historical movie, which is narrated by actor Blair Underwood.

I’m so proud to help bring this movie to North Miamians.  As a former American history teacher, I can tell you this is truly a teachable moment.  I hope you will invite your friends and family to share in this incredible night.
