Despite North Miami Police Commander Emile Hollant’s being cleared of all allegations by the Miami State Attorney’s Office that he lied to North Miami Police investigators, WPLG Channel 10 just reported that city officials are still not giving him back his job or his pay.
When questioned why Hollant has not been reinstated, North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin told Channel 10 reporter Derek Shore, “Not yet, because we still don’t know the full story.”
Oh, really?
That’s interesting because the Councilman also didn’t have the “full story” when he chose to trash Commander Hollant at a press conference held four days after North Miami Police SWAT team member Jonathan Aledda shot an unarmed black man, with his hands up, on July 18, 2016.
Galvin went on to state for the record, “I’m still in this position of waiting because you’ve got the FDLE investigation, which will address everything.”
That’s also interesting because in a Close-Out Memo issued on August 2, 2016, the State Attorney made it absolutely clear that “Officer Jonathan Aledda is not the subject of this preliminary inquiry,” which “is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and other Assistant State Attorneys.”
In other words, the bogus inquiry that the State Attorney opened regarding Commander Hollant was SEPARATE AND APART from the FDLE investigation into Officer Aledda prematurely ejaculating the bullets from his rifle … and hitting the wrong target!
Galvin also went on to state, “If Commander Hollant was on his way back to his car to get binoculars, why was he earlier on tape saying, ‘He’s loading his weapon, he’s loading his weapon.'”
WTF?
What a ridiculous assumption!
As if it’s not humanly possible for a police officer to speak and walk at the same time?
Besides, Commander Hollant didn’t walk – he ran to his car to get his binoculars.
Galvin is also completely ignoring the fact that even before the first shot was fired, a second officer announced over the police radio, “It’s a toy truck. He’s saying it’s a toy truck,” as reported by the Miami Herald yesterday.
That fact alone positively shatters any contrived defense on the part of the actual shooter that Commander Hollant’s words caused him to discharge his firearm.
And yet, despite reality, Councilman Galvin is still insisting that he knows better than Chief Assistant State Attorney Jose Arrojo and Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney Howard Rosen, both of whom conducted a thorough inquiry and concluded that the Commander DID NOT LIE!
At the July 22nd presser, before all the facts were even known, Galvin publicly castigated the Commander for ALLEGEDLY lying.
But, apparently, some LIES are more acceptable than others!
Where was Galvin when serial predator Officer Jodlyn Antoine was on paid administrative leave for EIGHT MONTHS after one of his many Internal Affairs investigations for illegally accessing the police database to stalk women, and then LYING TO INVESTIGATORS ABOUT HIS ACTIONS?
Is that LIE acceptable to the Councilman?
And what about the fact that North Miami Police investigators LIED to the City Manager, Mayor and Council about Commander Hollant’s statements, despite the information provided by the State Attorney’s Office in the Close-Out Memo?
Is that LIE acceptable?
Or how about the fact that Commander Hollant, who happens to be Haitian, was served up as a scapegoat just days after he was sworn in by a brand new Police Chief, who also happens to be Haitian?
Just saying.
And one more thing.
Isn’t it really interesting that Channel 10 ran with this innocuous story about Commander Hollant “remaining on leave without pay” when this isn’t exactly headline inducing news?
The same way that Channel 10 just happened to be the first local news team to report that “sources” knowledgeable about the investigation “leaked” that a high ranking officer in charge of the scene was also implicated in the incident?
The same way that Channel 10 just happened to be the first local news team to report that the U.S. Department of Justice was going to look into the shooting?
The same way that a Channel 10 news team showed up at Commander Hollant’s doorstep when it was announced that he was being suspended for allegedly “obstructing the investigation?”
Who the hell gave Channel 10 Commander Hollant’s home address when it is STATE LAW that the residences of police officers are to be REDACTED from public records?
Obviously, there are one or more persons inside City Hall and/or the North Miami Police Department working behind the scenes to not only deliberately steer the investigation of what appears to be an unjustified shooting, but to also undermine the Chief of Police and his newly appointed Command Staff.
And, certain city officials are only too happy to go along with the whole charade.
Despite the fact that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the police shooting, and despite the fact that an inquiry made by the State Attorney THAT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FDLE INVESTIGATION was closed, Councilman Scott Galvin told Channel 10 that “the Police Department is still conducting an internal review into the shooting of Kinsey by Officer Jonathon Aledda [who, unlike Hollant, was suspended WITH pay, I might add!], and whether Hollant lied to detectives about circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Let’s not forget that the North Miami Police Department’s “internal review” of the shooting was a boondoggle from the beginning, which is why the investigation was taken entirely out of the department’s hands in the first place.
All the bogus charges that North Miami Police investigators are trying to lay on Commander Hollant are ONE HUNDRED PERCENT UNMITIGATED BULLSHIT.
And they know it!
Instead of owning up to their mistake, city officials are desperately trying to avoid admitting that they were wrong.
And they are still refusing to reinstate Commander Hollant with pay.
This is not going to end well.
Giddy Galvin always in front of the camera. Who is he to be interviewed anyway? Is he the Mayor? No. Is he the Manager? No. Is he the Police Chief? No. Since when do the council members make these kind of calls?
Council members do have the right to speak to the press about anything they feel is necessary. Any citizen does, assuming they can find a reporter who cares.
No one has the right, however, to make up their own “facts” or slander anyone based on false information.
