If North Miami residents are feeling a little stressed these days, it’s not their imagination. According an analysis conducted by career search website, Zippia.com, North Miami is the #1 most stressful place to live.
Residents of North Miami Beach, stop laughing. You’re #2.
This study was based on “six criteria that reflect its root causes for most people and used them to look at the 215 places in Florida with a population over 5,000.”
These criteria are:
- Percentage of population with a long commute (over 30 minutes)
- Unemployment Rate
- Hours worked
- Population density
- Percentage of income spent on rent
- Percentage of population without health insurance
“The higher any of these were, the more stressed the people of the place are.”
The top ten list includes:
- North Miami
- North Miami Beach
- Lauderhill
- Miami Gardens
- Lauderdale Lakes
- West Park
- Sweetwater
- Hallandale Beach
- Florida City
- Lake Worth
North Miami made the top of the list because 66.7% of its population of 60,756 residents have high rent, 53% have a long commute and 37.4% have no health insurance. The stress factors for the 43,028 residents of North Miami Beach are 63.7%, 53% and 36.5%, respectively.
Five of the top ten most stressful cities are in Miami-Dade, four are in Broward, and one is in Palm Beach County.
Not surprisingly, Opa-locka came in at #17.
(And, don’t hate me ‘cuz Davie is #97.)
There is hope for North Miami, but not so much for Miramar, currently #22 on the list.
For one thing, North Miami has a new City Manager running the show. For another, Chief Lenny has left the building. (Coincidence? I think not!).
By the time next year’s list is published, North Miami’s stress level should decrease considerably.
Since inheriting North Miami’s biggest headache, Chief Lenny, expect Miramar to inch higher up the list.
In the meantime, here’s a bit of advice for the stressed out residents of North Miami and North Miami Beach:
