Did any of y’all know that the City of North Miami had its own YouTube Channel?
I didn’t, either. But I happened to come across it when I googled Arthur Sorey’s name for my last post.
That’s also how I inadvertently discovered another YouTube video starring none other than Police Chief Leonard Burgess.
In an apparent companion video to his good buddy Art Sorey’s, Chief Lenny also had a New Year’s Message for the residents of North Miami.
In his ill-conceived and even more poorly executed message, Chief Lenny shares “some of the initiatives we are doing for the year of 2016.”
All things considered, he probably should have kept his thoughts to himself.
Then again, this is Chief Lenny we’re talking about. Hardly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Nevertheless, let’s take a look at some of “initiatives” that Chief Lenny had planned for 2016.
“Over the last three years we have reduced violent crimes by nearly 10%. Why? Because people and citizens are getting involved.”
Apparently you can only be one or the other, but not both. At least not at the same time.
“They’re saying something. They’re seeing something.”
I’m pretty sure you have to see something before you can talk about it, but I could be wrong about that.
“But more importantly, when they hear it and see it they’re calling us.”
Unless they happen to be in the police department lobby with a loaded gun. Otherwise, feel free to call.
“Any type of suspicious activity has truly benefited us.”
Words fail me.
“Lastly, I want to talk about the level of professionalism that you will see in 2016.”
I’m sure the victims of serial predator cop Jodlyn Antoine will be thrilled to hear that.
“We’re looking for new technology, new laptops, so that technology will enhance the effectiveness of our police department.”
Making the police database even more accessible to Officer Antoine!
“It’s your police department. We’re a care friendly police department.”
Now let’s look at the actual “initiatives” he’s accomplished since he delivered his New Year’s Message.
- Chief Lenny spent $6,000.00 on his prized decoy truck … which failed to prevent an armed robbery.
- Chief Lenny totally botched his request for LETF funding … which had to be pulled from the agenda.
- Chief Lenny continued to brag on low crime stats … until the actual FBI stats were published.
- And despite Chief Lenny’s protestations to the contrary … the crime rate continued to rise.
- When residents demanded answers, Chief Lenny responded … with a Handy Dandy Traveling Message Board.
- Before he announced his resignation, Chief Lenny’s final act of incompetency was … the NMPD’s FIRST EVER FAILED ACCREDITATION ASSESSMENT.
So much for all of Lenny’s best laid plans, eh?
The good news is that Chief Lenny is finally on his way out. The department’s professionalism has nowhere to go but up!
Even though he is expected to return from vacation tomorrow, Chief Lenny’s official last day on the job is Monday, May 23, 2016.
Hmmm. I’m thinking he might just wanna pack it up now and save himself the humiliation.
The sooner Chief Lenny clears out his office, the sooner the North Miami Police Department can get back to the business of serving and protecting the residents of North Miami.
Who truly do deserve better.

“Spreading the Wealth”
I have no words for this. Apparently, neither did Chief Burgess.
