Local10.com is reporting live that Federal Agents are swooping into Opa-locka as we speak, armed with search warrants.
Since last December, Opa-locka has been the target of federal investigations by the FBI and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
According to the article:
“Sky 10 was above the Opa-locka Municipal Complex, 780 Fisherman St., as FBI agents were seen carrying items out of the building.
The concentration seemed to be near the Opa-locka branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library System.
Police cars were blocking off Fisherman Street near Opa-locka Boulevard.
The FBI told Local 10 News that no arrests have been made.
No other information was immediately available.”
Looks like the Mayor and Commission are in a whole heap of trouble now.
Did anyone call Ben Kuehne yet?
UPDATE: The Miami Herald just reported:
“Dozens of federal agents raided Opa-locka City Hall early Thursday to gather official records, computers and other evidence in a corruption probe zeroing in on top public officials, including the mayor and other city commissioners.
While inside City Hall, FBI agents also entered the police detective offices and ordered all of the detectives into the hallway area so that federal agents could conduct a search.
Agents fanned out to other parts of City Hall, including the offices of the city manager, public works director and information technology supervisor.
No arrests are planned Thursday, only the execution of a search warrant in connection with the FBI’s corruption investigation, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the raid.”
Oh, yeah. This is gonna be fun.
