Miami Beach commission candidate Mark Weithorn has one more day to try to convince voters that he’s not just another sleazy politician.
Despite all the down and dirty campaign tricks he’s played on Miami Beach residents since he filed to run for commissioner on January 6, 2015, Mark Weithorn wants you to trust him.
Yeah, right.
I first wrote about Mark Weithorn on May 8, 2015, when I discovered his devious plot to steer the North Miami Beach city council election. I’ve been unraveling his web of deception and revealing this #DirtyPolitician’s dastardly deeds ever since. It hasn’t been pretty. Miami Beach residents can’t say they weren’t warned. Caveat emptor!
Since the polls open in little over 24 hours, I decided to go on one last dirt digging expedition of Mark Weithorn’s sordid career, hoping a few more slimy things would slither out from under the rocks.
I was not disappointed.
Despite his hypocritical accusations that his opponent benefited from a now disbanded political committee, as I previously reported, Mark Weithorn is connected to several political committees, i.e., Common Sense , Alliance for Better Representation, and Save Miami Beach.
All of these committees were formed by Tallahassee attorney Mark Herron. All of them have been used by Mark Weithorn in an attempt to get himself elected to public office.
So far, his efforts have failed epically.
It was then discovered that Mark had ties to another Electioneering Communications Committee formed by Mark Herron, Miami Beach Advisory Council. This ECO paid large sums of money to Mark Weithorn’s favorite campaign supply and consulting companies, Image Plus Graphics, Inc. and Triumph Fundraising, Inc., which I wrote about in #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn: Ethically challenged. Breaks the law. Wants your vote.
Mark Weithorn also was tied to lobbyist Randall “Prince of Darkness” Hilliard in connection with yet another Electioneering Communications Organization called Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility. This committee was the subject of an investigation by the Florida Elections Commission in 2013, and was eventually fined $1,000.00 for violating election laws by collecting untraceable donations through a Nevada shell corporation.
For the 2015 commission election, the City of Miami Beach Committee Database lists three Political Committees and seven Electioneering Communications Organizations which have filed to steer Tuesday’s races.
Aside from Mark Weithorn’s direct involvement with the political committee Save Miami Beach and the ECO Miami Beach Advisory Council, Weithorn’s go-to lawyer Mark Herron also formed and filed with the City of Miami Beach three additional ECOs: Beach Resident Residents for Quality of Life, Guardians of Miami Beach, and Miami Beach for All.
All three Electioneering Communications Organizations have reported zero contributions and expenditures, and all three have filed only Waivers of Report in lieu of Campaign Treasurer’s Reports.
Miami Beach Advisory Committee, however, reported in its most recent Campaign Treasurer’s Report for the period of October 3, 2015 through October 16, 2015, a $500.00 contribution from Dyal Corp., the registered agent and only officer/director of which is James Resnick.
While the 2013 Florida Elections Commission’s case against Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility is now closed, there seems to be another interesting connection between that ECO and #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn’s current campaign. Apparently, during the Commission’s investigation, James Resnick was a person of interest.
On page 24, Paragraph 20 of Case No. FEC 13-267, Investigator Smith noted that witness David Wallack admitted under oath in an affidavit that he was solicited to make a contribution to Hilliard’s shell Nevada corporation. The investigator referred to an exhibit marked “(SR attachment G, page 2),” which Affidavit of Information begins on page 39 of the case file. Paragraph 12 of the Affidavit of Information specifically asks Mr. David Wallack if he is “familiar with the name of an individual by the name of James Resnick,” which question Mr. Wallack answered in the affirmative.
It’s not clear why the Florida Elections Commission was interested in the relationship between Mark Weithorn, Randall Hilliard and James Resnick, but the mere fact that there was a connection is quite telling. The Commission’s findings ultimately suggested that the money raised by this committee was at least partially used to help #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn’s FAILED bid for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives.
Two years after that investigation was closed, James Resnick’s company donated to one of Weithorn’s many shady political committees.
This just one more piece of what is obviously a much larger puzzle comprising the sleazy political world of #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn.
On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, please vote responsibly!
