Things are heating up on the campaign trail in Miami Beach, and #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn is even more desperate to discredit the competition.
He may try to deny it, but the money trail suggests that Weithorn is behind an email blast campaign attacking several candidates for the upcoming Miami Beach City Commission election, including his strongest opponent, Ricky Arriola.
The disclaimer on these emails state, “Pd. Electioneering. Adv. by Save Miami Beach, 16610 SW 82nd Court, Miami, FL 33157.”
The residential property located at this address is owned by Stephen M. and Rita Cody.
Here’s where it gets really interesting!
For one thing, there is no Electioneering Communications Organization called “Save Miami Beach.” This is a BOGUS ORGANIZATION, which filed as a “political committee” with the City of Miami Beach, but not with the Florida Department of State, Division of Elections.
At one time there was a Florida committee and trademark with this same name, but it was dissolved in 2007. Apparently, #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn and his shady political operatives have illegally hijacked this name to send out their political email blasts.
For another thing, “Save Miami Beach” has yet to file a report listing its donors, which is basically illegal, but there have been no consequences so far.
Actual reporters don’t seem to care, either, or they’d be asking questions and digging for answers.
(I know, I know. Bloggers have to do ALL the work!)
“Save Miami Beach” isn’t registered with the state, but there is an ECO called “A Better Miami Beach,” which was funded by another ECO by the name of “Common Sense.”
You will recall that Common Sense is the Electioneering Communications Committee behind #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn’s negative ad campaign in the last North Miami Beach election against Phyllis Smith’s opponent, Bruce Lamberto.
Interestingly, during that campaign, Weithorn stole the identity of a woman by the name of Laura Smith of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and set up a BOGUS ORGANIZATION called “Save our Streets NMB” to do his dirty work.
Are we sensing a pattern here?
But, wait! There’s more!
#DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn’s campaign strategist is one Pedro R. Diaz of Diaz Consulting Group, Inc., whose company also donated to “Common Sense,” along with Weithorn’s company, Showcase Websites, Inc.
If that weren’t incriminating enough, Pedro Diaz and Stephen Cody also worked together in 2011 in a now defunct Florida “non-profit” corporation by the name of Citizens for a Better Miami-Dade County, Inc.
Here’s some fun trivia, too!
Stephen Cody, dubbed a “troublesome” lawyer by Eye On Miami, pled guilty after being accused of royally screwing over a client and a whole slew of other nasty things. He was then ordered by the Florida Supreme Court to pay that former client restitution in the amount of $13,049.00, and was suspended from practicing law for one year by the United States District Court on November 6, 2013.
A real upstanding citizen, eh?
If all these things weren’t shady enough, consider the sheer chutzpah of #DirtyPolitician Mark Weithorn’s breakfast lovin’ wife, Deede, who is doing the exact same thing she’s accusing Mark’s political opponents of doing – raising PAC money from city vendors.
Unfortunately for Deede, her term on the Miami Beach Commission is coming to a close. Because career politicians don’t know what to do with themselves when they’re not feeding from the taxpayer trough, Deede is now running for State Representative.
She’s also keeping her Commission seat warm for her husband, Mark.
Because that’s how the #DirtyPolitician Friends & Family Plan works – they pass the torch to family members to keep the gravy train flowing.
If voters are sick and tired of leaches like Deede and Mark Weithorn running the government, they need to ELECT THEIR OPPONENTS!
That’s the only way to send a clear message that fraud and corruption will no longer be tolerated.

WOW! I would say elect “Bugs Bunny” rather than these ticks. People MUST do just a little research or read your blogs (which is honest and detailed) and get out and vote!
Double Wow! I across your blog while searvhing for some info and found it very timely that you are writing about a Miami Beach election in which I don’t have a clue on who to vote for. After reading your column, I definitely won’t be voting for this guy Weithorn. You can add my wife and four voting kids to that and my next door neighbor who always votes for whoever I recommend. Thanks for the information.
Come to think of it, he apparently is as cheesy as he looks.
I too looked into the back round of Weithorn and he should be the last person to be attacking anybody. He has more skeletons in his closet than a mass grave. While I am not an big fan of his opponent, I just can’t vote for this guy, his wife, or anyone else in his shady family. They both need to go out a get real jobs.
I have to agree that having TWO politicians in the same family does not bode well for the taxpayers, especially when one is in office to pave the way for the other. Just as a spouse cannot be compelled to testify against their spouse, the same should apply when it comes to qualifying to be a politician. There should be a gap in between elections of married couples.
This is the reason Trump exists. People are tired of the same old bullshit The only thing worse than one sleezey politician, is two of them. These are the same people pointing fingers at everyone else while they PAC in the money for themselves.
They aren’t even good neighbors. I never gave them permission to put a sign in my yard. That alone will cost them three votes.
