In case anyone cares, there’s a municipal election coming up in North Miami Beach. There are four seats up for grabs, and so far only the Mayor has not drawn an opponent. The deadline to file to run for office is Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 12:00 noon. Here’s an update on who’s filed and what their Campaign Treasurer’s Reports have revealed so far.
Mayor George Vallejo filed to run on January 9, 2015. On February 15, 2015, he filed his Campaign Treasurer’s Report of contributions and expenditures through January 31, 2015. George has raised $35,941.20 and has spent $150.23.
In Group 3, Councilwoman Phyllis Smith filed on November 3, 2014. As of January 31, 2015, Phyllis reported loans to her campaign in the amount of $4,072.00 and no expenditures.
(Note to Phyllis: I realize you appointed yourself as your Treasurer. You need to teach yourself how to properly complete a CTR. Just saying.)
Her opponent, Michael Joseph, filed to run on January 16, 2015, and filed a Waiver of Report on February 4, 2015, which means he didn’t raise or spend any money yet.
Frantz Pierre filed to keep his seat in Group 5 on February … 0? Or 10th? Or 12th? I’m not exactly sure since I can’t read his handwriting. Since we can never understand a word he says when he’s speaking English, little wonder he can’t write English, either. In any event, he hasn’t raised or spent a dime. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t been up to no good. (More on that in a later blog.)
Frantzie’s opponent, Ketley Joachim, filed to run on November 19, 2014. She filed two Campaign Treasurer’s Reports for contributions and expenses through February 9, 2015. So far Ketley has raised $1,745.00 and spent $207.35.
In Group 7, Councilwoman Marlen Martell filed to run on January 12, 2015. Her Campaign Treasurer’s Report filed February 15, 2015 reflected contributions of $4,100.00 and expenses of $154.06.
Marlen’s opponent, Paule Villard, filed to run on February 3, 2015. Interestingly, she originally filed to run on November 21, 2014 for Group 3 against Phyllis Smith.
Interesting that she jumped seats, no? If you’re wondering whether or not L’il Frantzie P has orchestrated this campaign, you’re not alone. I’m sure we’ll find out the whole story as campaign season heats up.
Paule filed her first Campaign Treasurer’s Report for December 31, 2014 on January 15, 2015. Note that she listed “Campaign to Elect Paule Villard” as the Candidate’s Name on Line 1, instead of simply her own name. She also did not list the Group number in which she was running on Line 4.
Hmmmm? Campaign violations already?
Yes, I’ll be checking on that.
According to her first Campaign Treasurer’s Report, Paule Villard raised $4,600.00 and spent $4,468.44.
According to her second Campaign Treasurer’s Report filed … filed … HUH?
OMG! This candidate did not file the REQUIRED Campaign Treasurer’s Report for the period ending January 31, 2015, which was due on February 15, 2015!
More campaign violations?
Oh, dear. Looks like I’ll be busy this season filing the usual and customary complaints.
Good thing the Florida Elections Commission Complaint Department is always open.
