Personally, I’d rather have another root canal than run for public office.
You, on the other hand, might be one of those people who has this burning desire to kiss your personal life goodbye and open yourself up to scrutiny and criticism by a fickle public, who will love you one moment, turn on you the next, and think nothing of slicing, dicing and putting you under a microscope.
For sport.
If you’ve considered all the above consequences, and the idea of living in a fish tank still doesn’t turn you off, and you’re still hell bent on throwing your hat into the ring, please put this hat on your head and continue reading.
With the North Miami and North Miami Beach elections right around the corner, I’m sure there are more than a few NMB residents (and Miramar residents “relocating” to North Miami) who are contemplating a run for public office.
Despite that caveat, there IS good news!
The Good Government Initiative, at the University of Miami (Initiative for Excellence in Public Service, Inc., a Florida Non-Profit Corporation), which is run by Katy Sorenson and Jennifer Garcia, is holding a one day workshop entitled, “Thinking About Running?”
The mission of the Good Government Initiative is to cultivate leaders of excellence in South Florida through the development and training of elected officials as well as those aspiring to run for office, and to engage the community in its governance through outreach and education.
Good Government is the key to creating a community of lasting value for all residents.
If you are seriously thinking of running for office, please seriously first consider attending this workshop.
There are already enough idiots in office.
Don’t be one of them!
