The results of the straw poll I conducted with Survey Monkey are in.
I often lament that in a typical city election, only about 10% of the registered voters bother to cast a ballot. The same thing happened here.
Although the blog got 202 hits, just 21 readers answered the question, “Of the candidates expected to run, which one do you believe has the best chance of winning the mayoral seat in the North Miami special election?”
Here are the results:
The most surprising result is that more people believe Daphne Campbell has a better chance of winning the election than Marie Steril.
The least surprising is that no one expects Jean Marcellus to win anything.
Almost 20% of the respondents (that would be exactly 4 people) would choose a candidate other than the five generally believed to be the main contenders. Here are their responses:
- Anybody but them
- I don’t know but I hope someone else runs
- Frantz Pierre
- Ricardo Brutus
For now it appears that the potential candidates for the vacant spot on the dais care more about filling the Mayor’s seat than the citizens who will decide which victor gets the spoils.
Needless to say this does not bode well.
I’ll keep y’all posted as soon as the Candidate Oaths are filed.

Go for it, KBurns! We need you!
Steph … I will agree with your closing remark … This does not bode well … Especially for the hard working, tax payers and citizens of North Miami …North Miami needs new leadership and a new face to build the gap and bridges between the Anglo, growing Hispanic, and Haitian American communities while addressing the issues and challenges … All of candidates in this survey are bad repats of an old 1980’s nighttime soap opera … However, they will be great for Stephanie’s business as she will have future materials and folder to write about
Ned, no worries. As long as I have this gig, I don’t think I’ll ever have a shortage of material. Even if North Miami cleans up its act, there’s always Myron and L’il Frantzie P to keep me busy.
Stephanie …LMAO …It is too bad that NMB is a terrible shape … Maybe early morning visitors from the feds may revive NMB and restore its glory
