North Miami wins municipal tap water contest

Drink up, North Miami: The city’s tap water is among the tastiest in the state.

The City of North Miami won bragging rights Thursday for having the best-tasting tap water in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

North Miami’s Public Works beat out four other South Florida municipal utilities to be crowned the 2014 champion of the American Water Works Association’s Region VII drinking water contest, which took place at the Coral Gables Country Club. The city’s tap water will be entered in a statewide AWWA competition next month in Orlando.

It was the second year in a row that North Miami won the regional contest — and the fourth straight year that Miami-Dade’s Water and Sewer Department took second place. Other water utilities that entered: Florida City Water and Sewer, Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority, and North Miami Beach Public Services.

Contest judges were Yoly Cuello of Radio Caracol, Jilda Unruh of WFOR-CBS 4 and Evan Benn of the Miami Herald.

  1. Well that’s all good and well but what about the safest/healthiest drinking water… Wait, that would involve too much transparency and consciousness! Drink up, but filter really well (of course this is a lot easier for people with resources). Anyway, nice weekend to all!

  2. Interesting because the residents that are paying the highest water rates can’t even enjoy this tasty water, we get Miami Dade water…………….just another slap in the face, but thanks for sharing
