The two Resolutions on the table that I blogged about this morning in A Motto to Live By just FAILED by a 3-2 vote!
Mayor Lucie Tondreau and Councilwoman Marie Steril cast the two votes in favor, while Councilman Scott Galvin, Councilwoman Carol Keys and Councilman Philippe Bien-Aime voted against the proposals to keep the potentially hazardous land fill at the Biscayne Landing site.
I’m thinking the peeps at Oleta Partners, LLC are not happy campers right about now.
North Miami residents and the community at large should be dancing in the streets.
Or something like that.
Cafe Con Leche, anyone?
Guess the North Miami City Council figured out after all that:
“There is no right way to do a wrong thing”
Stephanie Kienzle
“Spreading the Wealth”
YES!
I choose to believe that, good, caring, intelligent people CAN be elected officials. (Scott Galvin is a good example!)
I applaud them for their courage and wish voters will remember they need support from their constituent’s. Going AGAINST those motivated by money, & power makes them HEROES.. You might want to “Thank Them, & Rally behind them!” Remember,
“UNITED WE STAND, & DIVIDED WE
Divided we? WHAT? Don’t keep me in suspense. 🙂
For once the citizens are in the win column! Stunned!
Thank you Stephanie. Did you see the part when the Mayor said something to the effect (note: please watch meetings for exact quotes) something about people wanting to be Superstars (?), that is why they are speaking up or saying no (to this issue or progress with Biscayne Landing, watch for exact words and context I do not remember exactly). Do you recall that part, does anyone?
Was that possibly a jab at Scott Galvin since it came after his strong opinion — which she said something to the effect she knew was going to happen and it looked as if like she was mimicking him, you can see for yourself and tell me?
And thank you Scott Galvin for being a strong voice. That seemed a tad bit disrespectful/ un-leaderly, meaning people have concerns and opinions and take their time to speak up and or disagree are now just doing that to be Superstars? Or what did she mean? Am I reading that wrong?
Look we all want progress in our city, but questioning motivations (you listening “superstars”) is, well, maybe not the most communal way to go about it, but I will say she is entitled to her opinion. What do I know. And we all want progress in our city, but that does not mean negotiating principals. But then again people have opinions. To many who showed up tonite, it seems the general view is we can have progress and good things.
So, here’s to good things!
PS: Then there was the whole Cholera/Haiti commentary…. but you’ll have to watch for that for yourself… someone may want to understand about how that disease takes hold, at least ask google. That was a very telling moment, even someone else up on the stage (after meeting was over), not on the council and I don;t know who it was, even called out to the citizen who spoke up making sure he knew the US was the 10th most polluted or something. Bizarre indeed, but very telling – the defensiveness. I don’t think the man (doctor I think, watch the tape), was being mean at all about Haiti, just trying to be helpful. Anyway, let’s hope for good things going forward with Biscayne Landing. Thank you for reporting Stephanie.
It’s called 151 at Biscayne now but it’s the same toxic waste dump. Lipstick on a pig.
I think you are onto something with that name! But seriously, I think (feel free to correct me) the condos changed their name to 151 at Biscayne, the larger development is still referred to as Biscayne Landing. Until such time they change that which of course would be better for PR (and better for less google hits) which I wouldn’t blame them for. I can’t imagine they would keep it once the site is done… who knows!
To quote a former Mayor/roller blading clown everything regarding BL is “for the developer by the developer. Also so much conflict of interest has and is going on there. Our former City Atty John Delagloria was instrumental in making the BL deal happen. He knows pretty much everything because he drew up the contracts. So he leaves and ends up representing Swerdlow and the ever name changing developers against the City. We have former Mayor Joe Celestin over there guarding the place or pretending to be doing something there and we’re paying him 25k a month! Former Mayor Andre Pierre while still in office told Swerdlow until he puts the money in his bank acct, no deal. It goes on and on. Google Andre Pierre and Michael Swerdlow and see more info on these two than you care to know. And no one gets in any trouble for this constant criminal activity.
I was very happy to see that Philippe Bien-Aime was in favor of the citizens of North Miami. I now know that he is one of those who is honest and cares about his constituents.
He has been on the right side of history before too, I think it was earlier on with this same issue. I have been impressed with his questions and concerns, at least the few times I have watched the meetings. So far, so good.
Hope he really is for the citizens but rumor has it that he is feuding with I love Lucie and does it to spite her.
