COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Undercover officers say a North Columbus massage parlor has been offering more than just massages.
Members of the Special Operations Unit busted the Sun Spa Monday night after an officer was offered sex for money inside.
Police say they’d received several complaints about the business off Veterans Parkway in the Plaza North Shopping Center, located behind Mellow Mushroom Pizza.
The owner of another massage parlor told officers one of her customers was offered sex for money at the Sun Spa and a nearby business owner said people were coming and going from the business late at night. Online, officers say the business was offering erotic massages.
When an undercover officer went in Monday, he says he was escorted into a room, told to undress and gave 46-year-old Suk Kim Ho $60 for a massage.
Ten minutes in, he says Ho whispered in his ear that he could pay her $200 for oral and straight sex or $100 for just oral sex.
When he said no, he says she told him, “You didn’t know that’s what we do here? Well, now you know for the next time.”
The officer left and came back with other agents to shut the business down. Ho and another woman, 51-year-old Kim Sun, tried to run but were arrested in the parking lot. Ho was hiding under a car.
She was charged with Prostitution, Obstruction and with not having a practitioner’s certificate.
Kim Sun was charged with Obstruction and with not having a practitioner’s certificate.
The woman at the front desk who police say was handling the exchange of money, 59-year-old Young Singletary, was charged with Keeping a Place of Prostitution.
The women have bonded out of the Muscogee County Jail.
The Sun Spa is located across from a learning center for autistic children, in a secluded area of the shopping center.
“It’s very disturbing because we are just across the little courtyard and just the kind of people that that business would attract, to be walking up and down. We do go out and blow bubbles and water flowers in the courtyard so it is a shared space. It’s very disturbing,” said Nicole Hilmes, Director of The Autism Learning Center.
A few stores down in the shopping center, the owner of the Mandarin Cafe, Ann Lee, said she had no idea what was going on near her business.
“To be honest, I don’t like businesses like that around the neighborhood. It is shocking to me but we had no idea what was going on because we mind our own business, just doing what we need to do to run our daily lives. We had no idea what was going on in the neighborhood,” she told WTVM.
Police say they cannot remember the last time a Columbus massage parlor was busted for prostitution.
They say they also found beds in the back of the business, indicating that the women may have been living there.
On the front door, the hours indicate the business is open seven days a week until 11 PM every night. It was locked Tuesday.
On an erotic massage parlor web site (http://www.eroticmp.com), Sun Spa customers left comments, all dated 2011, and rated the business.
