Legislature Approves Bill By Rep. Julien To Compensate Rachel Hoffman’s Family
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, the Florida Senate gave final approval to House Bill 7131 by Rep. John Patrick Julien (D-North Miami Beach) that provides relief for Irving Hoffman and Marjorie Weiss, parents of Rachel Hoffman, who was murdered while serving as a confidential informant for the Tallahassee Police Department. The measure, which had already cleared the Florida House and now heads to the governor’s desk, provides limits on payment of attorney fees and costs.
Representative Julien issued the following statement:
“Today, I can say that I am pleased that my colleagues in both chambers have agreed to do the right thing for the family of Rachel Hoffman. There is no amount of money that can ever ease the pain that her loss has caused. But with this small gesture, her parents can move on and establish certain benevolent acts in her name. I thank Senator Mike Fasano for sponsoring the bill in the Senate and also Representative Michelle Rehwinkel-Vasilinda for her co-sponsorship in the House.”
