I have been getting responses for the volunteer effort to serve Christmas Meal at Fulford United Methodist Church on December 25th.
The hours are from 1:00 – 3:00, but if you can get there at 12:30 even better. We still need more volunteers so please let me know if you are available and together we can make the less fortunate have a happy and delicious Christmas. Thanking in advance those that have contacted me and will be able to help.
All the best,
Barbara Kramer
Dear Residents,
Our community Church, Fulford United Methodist is having much concern that they won’t be able to fund nor find volunteers for this year’s Christmas Dinner. One issue is the economic hardship affecting a great many who normally participate by sponsoring the meal for those less fortunate. The other reason is because Christmas falls on a Sunday this year and many who would normally volunteer to set the tables and serve the food will be in church for Sunday services. Bert Kehren and I are reaching out to the community, especially those that do not partake in the Christmas holiday to help on Sunday, December 25th for just a few hours. Bert is working on the financial end and I am reaching out to the residents, especially those of the Jewish faith for volunteers. Pastor Burke will be contacting me shortly to let me know the time of day they will decide to serve the meal, but in the meantime I wanted to send this email out so that volunteers can start thinking of scheduling this into their day.
As a community this is a great way to offer ourselves to bring holiday cheer and a warm meal to those less fortunate. Please email me if you can volunteer as it would be greatly appreciated; besides it would bring us all together during the season of giving. Also please feel free to forward this email to anyone you know that might want to help those in our community on Christmas Day.
All the best,
Barbara Kramer
Barbara, Thanks you for all you do for the city of NMB. It is truly appreciated. I, myself have volunteered several years at the Miami Rescue Mission in downtown.
One thing I notice on Fulford Blvd is the number of homeless guys who appear to be destitute and living on the street in NMB. I’m wondering, how in addition to feeding the homeless folks that live on Fulford Blvd, whether you know if the church and/or local non-profits are involved in reinforcing their efforts to rebuild their lives and find places to live. I know that not everyone who is hungry, is also homeless. But, I also live in the local area and see the same homeless folks each day living on the various bus benches. Sometimes they are begging at various corners, but most of the time they are just sitting on bus benches drinking beer from cans. Seems something should be done to support their efforts to get off the street. Thank you for your interest in these folks that need help.
